The Galápagos Islands

The trip that still tops the list — a liveaboard to Wolf and Darwin for orcas, mola mola, marine iguanas and curious sea lions.

Overview

The Galápagos is the trip that still tops my list, every time. I did it on a liveaboard with the Aggressor fleet, running up to Wolf and Darwin Islands where the big pelagics gather — orcas, mola mola, and hammerheads in the current. Between dives there were marine iguanas making their mass "mad dash" into the sea, and a sea lion so curious it would not leave me alone. On land, the giant tortoises at the Darwin Research Station put the whole archipelago into perspective. It is the kind of trip that ruins ordinary diving for you, in the best way.
