I have made multiple trips to Mexico's Yucatán, and it is one of the few places where you can dive a coral wall in the morning and a freshwater cave in the afternoon. Cozumel's reefs are the headline — famous drift dives along walls that drop into the blue, with the current doing the work while you watch the coral slide past. Then there are the cenotes, the freshwater sinkholes just outside Cancún, where you float through crystal-clear caverns lit by shafts of light. It is two completely different kinds of diving within an hour of each other.

Days 1–2
Fly into Cancún, transfer to Cozumel or a Playa del Carmen base, check dive on a shallow reef.
Days 3–5
Cozumel drift dives along the walls — two-tank mornings, lazy afternoons on the island.
Days 6–7
Swap to the cenotes for freshwater cavern dives, then a final reef morning before flying home.
